Tips and Tricks 29-35

After dedicating over 25 years to the art of backpacking, I have amassed a wealth of knowledge, uncovering numerous tricks and techniques to ensure my safety, maximize efficiency, and enhance the overall enjoyment of my adventures.

Allow me to share with you some of my favorite backpacking tips and tricks that have stood the test of time.

Tip #29 - Drones

I find drones to be an incredible technology that offers a multitude of benefits in various aspects of our lives, from capturing stunning aerial photographs to aiding in navigation, exploration, and even wildlife monitoring.

While it’s important to note that using drones for hunting purposes is generally illegal in most states, there are legitimate uses for drones in tracking animals before hunting season. For instance, some dedicated bow hunters invest significant time and effort in tracking their desired trophy animals for months before the season opens. By observing and studying the animal’s behavior and movements, they gain valuable insights and improve their chances of success on opening day.

In the realm of fishing, the concept of using drones to locate fish is intriguing. While underwater drones exist for exploring beneath the surface, fishermen currently rely on sonar technology to detect and locate fish. However, it’s not far-fetched to envision advancements in drone technology that could revolutionize fishing techniques and enhance the angling experience.

Looking ahead, I believe we can expect drones to evolve even further in the coming decade. There’s potential for drones capable of carrying backpacking gear, making outdoor adventures more accessible to a wider range of individuals. Additionally, the development of manned drones, such as the ones showcased at events like CES in Las Vegas, opens up a world of possibilities and paves the way for new modes of transportation and exploration.

It’s truly exciting to witness the progress and envision the future applications of drone technology in enhancing our outdoor experiences and expanding our horizons.
